About Me
My name is Michelle Loria Alvarado, a Venezuelan multimedia journalism major at Trevecca Nazarene University. I am passionate about storytelling and truth-seeking. I have always been driven to uncover the stories that matter most, especially those that amplify underrepresented voices.
During my time at TrevEchoes, our university’s student newspaper, I have held various roles that have contributed to my development as a journalist. I began as a Staff Reporter, where I refined my skills in research, interviewing, and creating engaging stories. Later, I took on the role of Diversity Beat Reporter, concentrating on matters of representation, inclusion, and belonging. This position enabled me to delve into intricate subjects with sensitivity, bringing attention to stories that are often disregarded. I was also Assistant News Editor, where I oversaw news production, edited stories, and guided newer reporters. This position has sharpened my leadership and editorial skills, giving me a well-rounded understanding of managing a newsroom and producing impactful content.
Currently, I serve as the Executive Editor, where I lead the planning, coordination, and execution of our weekly news coverage, ensuring that every story meets the highest standards of accuracy, clarity, and impact. My role involves guiding stories from conception to publication, editing final drafts for quality and consistency, and managing a strategic budget to support our newsroom’s goals. I prioritize fostering a collaborative, motivating environment where my team can thrive creatively and professionally. This experience has strengthened my editorial judgment, leadership skills, and ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines.
My Venezuelan heritage and immigrant background give me a unique perspective on issues of justice, equity, and the importance of truth. As I look to the future, I am excited to continue using my voice to make a meaningful impact through journalism.
